From the start

As with all my Debian efforts I must thank John (Habbers) for his patience and knowledge of Debian. Without his help I would still be a M$ slave.

It wasn't hard getting Debian base up and running but a few odd things happened, possibly because because I stuffed up the install - I've only just started using Debian.

The main issue was that when I upgraded from Woody to Unstable none of the packages I downloaded installed and we couldn't work out why - still can't figure it out. Anyway once we finally got the Unstable packages installed but couldn't get Xserver to work (its working now - see [Getting X to work|Getting X to work]) . The other issue was getting APM to work. APM wasn't compiled into the Kernel and we couldn't work out how to get it running see [Power Management on the Fujitus Lifebook P2120|Power Management on the Fujitus Lifebook P2120]

The other big issue is getting USB to work, there seems to be some kind of bug in the Bios but I haven't figured out how to fix it. (I'm trying the 2.5.60 Kernel which might offer some hope.)

Note: In an effort to make my life easier I tried to install Knoppix and then Mandrake9 - neither of which worked. They both hung the system not long after starting the initial boot sequence. Thus I was forced to power down and back up agian. There must be something in the 2.4.x Kernel which doesn't agree with the Lifebook/Transmeta chipset.
