Drupal is a php based CMS that has a number of interesting features. It seems to be quite focussed on community centred websites rather that commercial or news focussed ones, although it does include support for news feeds. Includes support for blogging and collaborative books, which appear to be a really useful tool, polls, multiple users with permission controls and more.
