System Administration on Aktiom Debian Virtual Dedicated Server

This section of this book documents system administration issues that I encountered while setting up the Wilderness Societies website on an Aktiom Debian Virtual Colocated Server (also know as a Virtual Dedicated Server). Generally administration on a Virtual Dedicated server is exactly the same as on a real Dedicated Server, however there is one major difference. You are not able build your own kernel or load modules into the kernel and you do not have access to certain modules that might be a security risk to other clients on the VDS or could interfere with hardware settings. For example you have a limited range of ip modules avaialbel to you. This limited the firewall options available to me that is described in the section on setting up a firewall.
