This Chapter contains the results of an evaluation I undertook to find the best hosting option for our website. As we had chosen midgard we needed root access on a server as we would be compiling modules that would be loaded into apache. Initially we thought we would be restricted to having to purchase a server and then have it colocated with an ISP, something that was likely to cost a substantial amount of money. However after doing some research it appeared that there was another option that offered large financial savings yet would still be sufficient for our needs and that was a Virtual Colocated Server also known as a Virtual Dedicated Server.

We decided to trial a Debian Virtual Dedicated Server from Aktiom Networks.
